ALCALÁ NORTE
ALCALÁ NORTE
It’s safe to say that it has been the emerging band par excellence of 2024. Balancing between postpunk, pleading and respect for the history of the Madrid area they claim (Madrid East), Alcalá Norte will drop by the island to defend the self-titled debut everyone’s talking about.
Alcalá Norte (Balaunka, 2024) isn’t just a set of eleven songs, but a manifesto that is inscribed in the social coordinates of Ciudad Lineal, offering a new language to narrate the contemporary experience of this Madrid district. The melancholic echo of Joy Division and the solemnity of heavy metal coexist on the album as well as the naïve pop of the mid-nineties, almost always using the raw energy of punk and certain bakalaos. This rich tapestry of sound is manifested in songs such as the now essential ‘La Vida Cañón’, which stands out for its ability to fuse post-punk lament with melodies close to those of pop songs.
