JÚLIA COLOM
JÚLIA COLOM
It was thanks to ‘El Cant de la Sibil·la’, an ancestral song from Mallorca that her grandfather taught her when she was only seven years old, that Júlia Colom discovered her love for the voice and went deep into traditional music. This young artist from Valldemossa would end up going to Barcelona to commence vocal studies and deepen her knowledge of jazz, while continuing to explore Mallorca’s popular tradition.
This unique journey has resulted in compositions completely influenced by Majorcan “tonadas”, which are part of Júlia Colom’s DNA. These compositions come together in Miramar (2023), a debut album comprised of both original and traditional songs. A celebration of oral musical transmission and the multiple lives that songs can live which Júlia will showcase at our festival.
