MARÍA JOSÉ LLERGO

MARÍA JOSÉ LLERGO

María José Llergo, as the soul and free singing verse she is, knows what she is doing and knows what she wants. This young artist is a nomadic spirit that runs away from genres and clichés whilst staying true to her flamenco and Andalusian roots. Her music respects a tradition inherent to her that is not afraid of a metamorphosis that embraces the unconcealed avant-garde. A true gem that will shine and dazzle us at the festival presenting her critically acclaimed first LP, Ultrabelleza (2023), a celebration of the transformative power of love.

The Cordoban is already much more than the young promise of singing in Spain. It is a reality as solid as her innate capacity to move and raise emotions. Her main weapon is a voice, as sweet as it is powerful, which has made her stand out as one of the essential artists of her generation. The strength and spontaneity that María José Llergo’s songs exude makes her “duende” shine in a unique way on the international scene. A multidisciplinary artist – she sings, composes and plays different instruments – she’s experienced a constant growth since she took off in 2018 with the song ‘Niña de las dunas’. Since then she has developed a brilliant career, conquering critics and audiences beyond our borders while being true to herself. Her performance at COLORS (the audiovisual platform where artists such as Dua Lipa and Jorja Smith have performed), the EP Sanación (2020), the 2022 Goya Award for Best Original Song for ‘Te espera el mar’, her historic show at the Lincoln Center in New York… María José Llergo’s light is as incandescent as ever.
