THE WOMBATS

Saturday 13

Liverpool trio The Wombats emerged as leading lights of the late-‘00s indie rock scene with 2007 debut A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, and, since then, lead vocalist and guitarist Matthew “Murph” Murphy, bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen and drummer Dan Haggis have maintained an incredible upward momentum. We will see it for ourselves at their Mallorca Live 2026 show.

Electro-flecked second album This Modern Glitch (2011) made them Top Ten regulars; third Glitterbug (2015) saw them embraced by the TikTok generation, with ‘Greek Tragedy’ becoming a viral hit several times over. By 2018 they’d stepped up to arenas with Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life and Fix Yourself, Not the World (2022) consolidated their unstoppable rise with the band’s first Number One album. Headline shows at Crystal Palace and The O2 followed amid the band’s biggest touring cycle so far, taking in arenas across the globe and culminating at Reading 2024, where the band headlined a rammed Radio 1 tent overspilling with crowds of 18-24-year-olds that remain their core audience 20 years into their career. All their songs from classics ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’ or ‘Moving to New York’ to their most recent hits have resonated with different generations who come together once again to enjoy their latest effort, Oh! The Ocean (2025). Their most sophisticated and sonically adventurous album yet marks a new era for the band, moving away from previous synthetic sounds to embrace a warmer-blooded approach.
